The Department of Water Supply has issued a water conservation notice to customers in North Kohala.
Affected areas include Hawi to Hala‘ula, including Puakea Bay, Ka‘auhuhu Homesteads, ‘Ainakea Village Subdivision, and all customers along Akoni Pule Highway, Mill Road, and Ma‘ulili Road.
This is an important Department of Water Supply (DWS), County of Hawai‘i, message for Friday, December 15, 2023.
The department requests affected customers to reduce water use by at least 10%.
The conservation notice has been issued because only one of three water wells serving the region is currently operational.
DWS issued a statement that they are working to expedite repairs and bring the inoperable wells back on-line.
“A thorough investigation into the cause of the problems needs to be completed before an approximate repair timeframe can be determined. DWS is working to expedite the repairs of both wells and bring them back online as quickly as possible to prevent any water service disruptions to customers,” said DWS Spokesperson Jason Armstrong.
Until the situation is remedied, DWS asks customers to wash only full loads of laundry and dishes, check faucets and pipes for leaks, do not let water run when washing hands, shaving, or brushing teeth and reduce showering times.
All affected water customers should limit water use for dust control and irrigation. Find other water-saving tips by clicking on the “Conservation” tab at www.hawaiidws.org.
